Whilst searching the sales for some snug sweaters to see you through the rest of the winter, I took a little inspiration from some stylish leading men.
See below to see who inspired me and where to buy the modern day version of their knitwear.
Folk x Liberty striped crew neck cotton sweater - £130 to £70
Whether or not you choose to put a jaunty red bandana with it like Cary Grant's character in To Catch A Thief, or not, you can't go wrong with a finely striped navy and white sweater. Wear to work on Dress Down Fridays with slim sand chinos and a white shirt underneath, or at weekends with dark jeans and a white t-shirt.
NN07 honeycomb knit wool roll neck sweater at Mr Porter - £180 t0 £126
Looks like NNO7 have also been inspired by lover boy Hubbell in The Way We Were. Whilst wearing a modern day version of the roll neck sweater he wears, surely no one could help but cosy up to you in this one.
Howlin' shawl collared wool cardigan at Mr Porter - £190 to £133
If the Steve McQueen rugged sort of look is you, then snap up this shawl collared chunky cardigan from Antwerp based knitwear company Howlin'. Use as a jacket on dry days and layer over a denim or brushed cotton check shirt for a cosy winter outfit.
Norse Projects Skagen roll neck knit sweater at End Clothing - £135 to £89
This Norse Projects sweater is as handsome as James Dean himself, but no need to look as brooding as he does - buying this sweater in the sale is surely a no brainer?! Also in navy, it's a classic that will go on and on - with jeans, cords, chinos or moleskins, get it while you can.
Ralph Lauren Fair Isle wool blend tank top £299 to £209
Go for a retro look with a fair isle sweater or in this case tank top. Notice the subtle combinations of patterns and textures that the costume department for Jeremy Irons character have put together so well here. Take care it doesn't look too fusty by adding a little something unexpected like a bright pair of socks or pocket square.
