Inspired by a personal shopping trip last week where we purchased the jacket below, I've been doing a bit of research on stylish and practical clothes to travel in. Here's what I found that ticked both those boxes......
We nearly walked away from buying this jacket until the shop assistant just happened to mention that not only was it showerproof and sleek looking but it also folded down into its own pocket, had a strap so you could attach it to your luggage and you could also use it as a little pillow for sleeping whilst travelling - and voilà, we couldn't resist - sold!

I love something that leads a sort of double life and this shirt which is part of the "Smart Without Effort" Smyth & Gibson collection fits that description perfectly! On the one hand it's looks super smart and on the other it has a 'formaldehyde free' non iron finish. The ideal thing to travel in, especially if you have a meeting to attend as soon as you arrive, so you can look as crisp as a cold Autumn morning even after a long journey!
If you'd really rather be wearing your track suit bottoms to travel in but the "athleisure trend" would be frowned upon in the work situation you face upon arrival at your destination, then do the next best thing and go for a pair of tailored cotton jersey trousers like these ones from Gucci. Comfortable enough to travel in, polished enough to present in....sorted.
Question: How does one stay comfortable and un-crumpled on a train, plane or long drive and arrive at one's destination looking as cool as James Bond after one of his infamous scrapes?
Answer: Invest in one of Paul Smith's "A Suit To Travel In". Made of a high-twist 100% worsted wool yarn which creates a quick recovery, crease-resistant cloth, this is a highly practical option if you travel a lot for work.
Don't get caught out by the sub-zero air conditioning, that you always forget about and can't move away from whilst hemmed into your seat on board a plane. Make sure you stick one of these luxurious woven and washed cashmere scarves from Drakes into your bag before you leave to fend off the freeze.
Speed your way through security by keeping all your travel document essentials in one very stylish place. Lightweight and hard wearing, this calf leather wallet combines form and function, has a removable passport cover and multiple pockets. Just what the doctor ordered for a stress free travel experience!
When the travelator is broken and you have to rely on your own two feet to traverse the many miles of airport departure land, you'll be grateful for these flexible rubber "travel soles" on this pair of Paul Smith Oxfords. They'll keep you looking sharp and you'll still have a spring in your step at Arrivals.
