Five looks with grey flannel trousers
Share
Last week I was on a personal shopping trip with a client. He really liked these grey flannel trousers from Jacob Cohen, but was unsure whether or not he'd wear them, as he'd had something similar before that didn't get worn. He asked me what he could wear them with and as I went through the selection of things we'd already decided to get, it appeared they went with nearly everything! He was sold!
Most of the outfits he needed were very casual, occasionally moving up a notch to smart casual, so here's how I styled them for him with the other pieces he bought, in an effort to show you just how versatile they can be.
A classic combo of white shirt and navy blazer with the grey flannels. The details that keep this look more casual are the button down shirt and stretch herringbone blazer, which makes it almost like a cardigan. The colour of these trainers gives the outfit some colour and the navy and green belt brings it subtly together.

Navy herringbone blazer - Boglioli at Harvey Nichols
Woven canvas navy and green belt - Anderson's at Harvey Nichols
Superstar green suede trainers - Golden Goose Deluxe Brand at Harvey Nichols
This Margiela shirt has the classic pale blue stripes of a typical business shirt but with it's frayed seams, missing breast pocket and mismatched stripes it clearly has a rather more creative feel. The Lardini blazer / cardigan is soft and moulds to the body, making it comfy and semi smart. I love these chocolate coloured trainers, which keep the whole look casual. To finish off and ensure your casual outfit still looks pulled together, I'd suggest you echo the blue colour of the shirt in your socks.

You don't have to wear a shirt and blazer all the time, but a fine knit sweater like this one is a great alternative. Here I've opted for some slightly smarter brogues but you could just as easily wear trainers again. And a classic navy peacoat is a great menswear staple to have in your wardrobe, as it goes with smarter trousers and jeans equally well.

Striped-trim crewneck wool jumper - Paul Smith at Selfridges
Artist stripe black wool scarf - Paul Smith at Harvey Nichols
Sid burgundy leather brogues - Grenson at Harvey Nichols
This shirt would be great with jeans but why save it for them? I love it with the flannel trousers and this denim chore jacket / overshirt. Keep it casual with colourful trainers and a sleek backpack.

Press indigo denim shirt - Albam at Harvey Nichols
1500.9 blue mesh trainers - New Balance at Harvey Nichols
Continue the cosy feel of flannel with a cashmere hoody. This can be worn on it's own or under one of the other jackets when the weather gets colder. My client said he didn't feel the cold that much and said he preferred layers, so he instantly fell in love with this forest green knitted hoody.

Tropicool printed cotton T-shirt - A.P.C. at Harvey Nichols
Green Mongolian cashmere hoodie - Joseph
Woven canvas navy and green belt - Anderson's at Harvey Nichols
Clean 90 black leather trainers - Axel Arigato at Harvey Nichols (also available with a black sole, if you, like many of my clients don't like the white sole)
On this shopping trip we bought 3 x jeans, 3 x trousers, 6 x shirts, 3 x sweater, 4 x t-shirts, 2 x trainers, 5 x jackets, 1 x belt, 1 x scarf!! I can't promise you'll come away with quite so much but I'd say on average I buy around 10-15 items on a personal shopping trip with a client, which makes up at least 15 outfits.
