Men’s linen suits for summer weddings
Last week I was personal shopping for wedding outfits with a father and son to go to a family member’s wedding. As it’s a summer wedding, we went for linen suits.
Linen suits are an easy win for summer as they don’t look too much like office wear, they’re cool in the heat and they can be smarter or casual depending on how you style them.
You don’t have to keep them just for weddings either — the jacket and trousers work really well as separates too, so you’ll actually get more use out of them afterwards.
This was one of the ones we got, and it was really flattering on! It’s a great colour - lighter than navy but not veering into “bright blue suit with tan shoes” territory as you see at so many weddings.
It has an elevated look with the peak lapel and one button, and the side adjusters on the trousers. We put it with a striped linen shirt which really brought it to life, no tie but a simple pocket square in white with blue edging and some dark brown suede loafers.

If you prefer to step away from the obvious choices of blue or beige, then green is a great alternative. I like the shade of this greyed down green which is particularly good for those of you with light brown or blonde hair and blue eyes. The wool, silk and linen mix gives it a lovely texture as well.
I really like how they’ve styled it on the website with the white shirt and black tie, so the colour of the suit takes centre stage. Great if you want an understated but different look.
Suit Supply are a great place to visit if you need a longer or shorter length, as they often have them in stock, and they’re available online too. If you’re going at a weekend though, make sure you book an appointment, otherwise you might be disappointed if no one’s available to help you….they get mega busy!

This was the other suit I got with my clients last week. It’s unlined and unstructured, so I wasn’t sure if it would look a little shapeless, and not as smart as we needed but was very pleasantly surprised at how fab it looked on!
We kept it simple with a white shirt (they have great ones here with a one piece collar, so it doesn’t collapse under a jacket) and a toning patterned pocket square. Again we went with some smart brown suede loafers - a perfect choice for summer.
If you look carefully, you’ll see the jacket has a small brown suede buttoning detail on the lapel. It’s detachable so you can remove it for more formal occasions, and reattach it if you want to wear the jacket as a blazer for a more casual look.

An understated but elegant suit - I chose this in part for the great colour which makes it different from what you may typically wear to the office (if you still wear a suit that is).
I love it with the pink they’ve shown it with and Richard James is great for those that need a longer length in the blazer, as generally their ‘regular’ fit comes up longer anyway.
The patch pockets on the jacket keep it a little more casual, making it easier to wear separately afterwards - always a bonus. It’s mixed with cotton so if you find pure linen can be a bit too floppy and unstructured for you, and you prefer a slightly crisper look, then this might be the one for you.

And if you want to go for something completely different, more casual and fun, then check this out! Percival is not somewhere I automatically think of for suits, but I was researching casual suits to wear to a wedding for another client online earlier in the year, and they popped up.
The great thing about this is that you can buy the trousers separately so if you don’t fit the standard 6” drop that most suits are sold in (6” difference between the size of the jacket and the trousers eg: 38” jacket will come with 32” trousers), then you have the choice.
Plus, you’ve got the option to go for a flat front style with belt loops or a pleat front with side adjusters, depending which you prefer.

I buy a lot of Incotex with clients and they always tend to go back for more! Again - I thought I’d choose a more unusual colour and brown is very much “en vogue” at the moment.
This one is pure linen, and unlined so that, coupled with the patch pockets of the blazer, mean it’s on the casual side of things.
The colour is great with white or cream or you could try a very pale blue with it too. Or if it’s a more casual wedding you could even have fun with it and try a pattern.
Click through you can see how they’ve styled the pieces separately too……I particularly like the blazer with the white trousers and t-shirt. It’d also look great with jeans, and the trousers with a knitted polo shirt, making it a really versatile suit to get.

“Sarah’s advance scouting really helped save time on the day, it was worth it just for that, we started the day with a plan and a list of places to go so no time was wasted, as I don’t get to London very often that was invaluable.
I would definitely use her services again.”
