A step-by-step guide to how the Total Style Upgrade works
I’ve had lots of interest in the Total Style Upgrade package recently - either from wives/girlfriends wanting to find a great gift for their husband/partner, or from the men themselves, who are ready to elevate their look.
Here, I’ve explained step by step, exactly how it works…..but if I’ve missed anything out, then please do drop me an email to ask.
Getting started with the Total Style Upgrade
Firstly, I’ll send over a questionnaire for you to fill in and send back to me. Don’t worry if you can’t fill in everything – do the best you can and I’ll ask for anything else I feel is essential. We can chat on the phone if you prefer - just let me know.
I’ll also ask you to send me a few photos of yourself – preferably a full length and head and shoulders but a random selection is fine. It’s just for me to get a sense of your current style and colouring / shape etc.
If you’d like to, you can send me pictures of looks and outfit ideas or styles you like from Instagram or Pinterest. This is not essential at all, and to be honest, most people don’t, but you’re welcome to.
Next, let me know when you’re free to do the first part of the Total Style Upgrade which is the Wardrobe Edit. Make sure you have around 4-5 hours spare. It does depend on the amount of clothes you have, but it's good to allow enough time for us to do it thoroughly. As well as getting rid of things, we'll be making up outfits from what you're keeping so we want to make sure we have enough time to do that too.
Part 1 of the Total Style Upgrade - Wardrobe Edit
Before I come round to do your Wardrobe Edit please gather everything in the same place if you have time to do so eg; coats and shoes from the hallway etc.
If you have a very full wardrobe, and want to save time on the day then you could also put ‘like with like’ (eg. all the trousers together, jackets etc). This’ll help speed things up on the day leaving us more time to go through everything but if you don't have time, then don't worry, we can still get it all done!
Another thing that might help if there’s loads to go through, is trying on anything you don’t think fits anymore. You probably don’t need me to tell you if it’s too tight or too big and can make more use of your time with me, putting together outfits and assessing whether things should stay or go.
This is roughly how we’ll spend the time:
1st hour
I’ll do a quick colour consultation for you to assess which colours look best on you.
You give me a quick overview of what you have, and then we’ll go through to assess each piece.
Anything you’re unsure about we’ll take it out and put it on the bed.
Next 2-3 hours
We’ll look at all the things on the bed and assess why you’re not wearing them, then we’ll put these into 4 smaller piles:
To go: things we’re getting rid of, either giving to charity or selling etc
To do: things that need repairing or cleaning etc
To store: anything you like and want to keep but it’s currently the wrong size. It could also be out of season clothes.
Don’t know: anything you like but don’t know how to wear
We’ll spend the majority of the time focusing in on the "Don't Know” pile and creating outfits from what you have. If you don’t have anything to with an item, but you like it, then we can add what we need to the shopping list.
Final hour
We’ll finish off by tidying up, finalising our shopping list, and going over any last minute questions or items you’re not sure about.
Follow up
I’ll upload the photos of the outfit pictures we took on to a digital wardrobe app I use and send it over to you. You can download it to your phone so you have all your outfits to hand.
I’ll send over the shopping list we’ve made of new items to buy and anything we need to go with something specific.
I’ll send details of any repair or alterations services etc you need - the ones I know are in Central London but some you can do by post.
FAQs
Do you take the clothes we got rid of away with you? No. You probably have a local charity shop or relatives you may want to give them to or I can recommend a few other places to sell or donate things.
Do I have to try everything on? It’s beneficial if you try on the majority of things so I can see how they look and if they fit well. When it comes to outfits, it’s good if you can try most of them but I understand this can be quite tiring, so with some things I’ll just put them together on the floor and take a photo. You’ll also find that once you’ve got new ideas of how to wear some outfits, you can use that formula for others.
Do you work weekends? Yes, I’m available on Saturdays and Sundays so if this is the only time you’re free we can do it then…..just make sure you don’t have too many distractions!
What happens if I need to change my appointment? If it’s more than 48 hours beforehand then just let me know – the more notice you can give the better. If it’s after the 48 hours then a £75 cancellation fee will be charged.
Part 2 of the Total Style Upgrade - Personal Shopping Trip
Once we’ve done the Wardrobe Edit, we can book in the Personal Shopping trip for a week or so afterwards.
I’ll go armed with the shopping list we’ve created and do all the research for you in the shops to find the things we need. This saves us loads of time on the day as I’ve narrowed down the selection for you.
Sometimes, I’ll put things by in a few stores or I book a personal shopping suite in Harvey Nichols. Otherwise, I’ll make a note of things that I’ve seen to refer back to when we arrive in store.
Once I've finished my recce for you, then I'll let you know where to meet. I usually shop in Central London around Regent Street / Bond Street / Oxford Street / Marylebone area or Knightsbridge / Sloane Square area, but let me know if there's somewhere else you'd prefer and we can discuss it.
If there's an item we found during the Wardrobe Edit that we’re looking for something specific to go with, then please bring it along.
On the Personal Shopping day
Shopping trips last for around 4-6 hours – we usually start at 10am and finish around 4pm. I am flexible though, so can fit in with your availability. This may sound like a long time, but trust me, it goes very fast. And it’s also fun! It’s not like wandering round aimlessly on your own but very focused and productive.
I like to get started straight away rather than going for coffee first, so I’ll show you what I’ve found for you in the first store and briefly talk you through why I chose it.
Then you can start trying everything on. I suggest you try most things, even if it’s a bit different from your normal look. We’re aiming for an enhanced version of you and you may not know if you like something until you try it!
That said – I don’t want you to go too far out of your comfort zone and buy things that aren’t “you” and you’ll never wear it so let me know if that’s the case!
As we’re trying everything on I’ll suggest how to wear it and we can try on various different outfits so you know how it looks. Whilst we’re shopping, I’ll make a note of what you’ve bought and what goes together.
Follow up
Afterwards, I’ll put together all the outfit combinations on the virtual wardrobe platform., along with the photos we took on the Wardrobe Edit. You can download the app to your phone so you have it to hand for reference.
I’ll also add any links to other items we noted down but were out of stock, or you wanted to think about. Plus if there are one or two bits that we didn’t manage to find, I’ll send links to these too.
If you’d like me to come to your house and integrate all your new things with items you already own, then we can book in an outfit building session, where I’ll photograph the combinations and add them to the app.
Hopefully you will have had a great time and be extremely pleased with the things you’ve bought. So if that’s the case and you’d like to book in your next shopping trip with me and are happy to pay within a month, then I’d love to offer you a 10% discount. A lot of clients become regulars once they’ve experienced how much easier and faster it is to shop with a professional!
Ongoing support
With the Total Style Upgrade, you have 6 months follow up support - so if you buy any other clothes and would like my opinion, need styling tips or outfit ideas on anything we haven’t already covered, or have an event to go to and would like some suggestions, then I can help with these.
You have me on hand for the next 6 months to discuss any outfitting dilemmas or help with any other SOS calls!
FAQs
Do you work weekends? Yes, I do work weekends but just be aware that it’’ll be busier in the shops, so if you can do during the week it’s preferable. And shops are only open 12-6 on Sundays.
Do we stop for lunch / coffee? I’ll ask at various points if you’d like to stop for refreshments. Happy to go with your decision and if you prefer to power through without stopping that’s not a problem.
What do we do about alterations? Often the stores will do alterations for you if needed, but if not then I can recommend you to the alterations tailor I use. If we have time on the shopping day, and we’re in the right area, we may be able to take them there and then.
Can you recommend a barber? Yes, I do have someone I recommend people to regularly
Can we shop for glasses / sunglasses? Yes this is something I do frequently with clients
What should I wear on the shopping day? Wear something comfortable and easy to take on and off. If we’re looking for a jacket then it’d be a good idea to wear a shirt if that’s what you’ll be wearing it with.
Is it time you refreshed your wardrobe but you can’t face doing it on your own or have no idea where to start? You know you could look better and you might even know how you want to look, but you don’t have a clue how to achieve that.
Be nice to yourself and hand it over to a professional. After all, you get help with your home renovations, car maintenance, IT services etc and probably outsource many other things, so why not do it with your wardrobe.
After all, did anyone ever teach you how to get dressed well in the mornings?

I would highly recommend both the Wardrobe Edit and a Shopping Trip to really give your look a dynamic refresh.”
