Short sleeved summer shirts for men
Summer is suddenly in full swing here in the UK and I’ve been shopping till I drop with a wide variety of clients. Lots of holidays are coming up, so we’ve been buying some great items for those, and to wear when back home too.
Here are some of the shirts I’ve bought with clients in the past few weeks - quite a few of them were unexpected surprise buys for my clients as they never would have picked them out themselves, but loved them!
That’s exactly what I enjoy doing on personal shopping trips - choosing more unusual pieces to expand my client’s horizons, and give them a more exciting wardrobe that makes them feel great…….still like themselves, but better!
Percival black & white crochet knit shirt
“That’s a bit wild” was the comment I got from the client when I first showed him this shirt! I must admit, I wasn’t completely sure it about it either but it worked out brilliantly and looked super cool on him! Fun and different in a good way.
With this shirt, I’d keep the rest of the outfit pretty simple as you have enough detail in the shirt with the pattern and the crochet stich.
You can wear it on it’s own or with a black, white or cream t-shirt under it (find cream t-shirts here), and then either cream or beige trousers in linen or cotton - this gives it more of an elegant holiday feel. Or you could put black jeans on the bottom for more of an urban look.

Wax London pale blue & cream short sleeved shirt
So this had to be my favourite comment when I suggested this to another client…..
”It looks like someone’s taken my granny’s doilies and stuck them on the shirt” - he does have a point! But then he put it on and was immediately sold……and why not?
Traditional colours + unusual design = a good choice. Fab for summer! And it’ll give some of your friends something to talk about……they can make all the “granny’s doilies” comments they like but you know they’ll secretly be envious!
Pale blue intricate lace short sleeve shirt - Wax London - £195
All Saints lilac check short sleeve shirt
Another shirt I couldn’t quite decide if it was too “out there” for a client I was doing some online shopping for. But then he sent me a pic of him wearing it and it looked great! It’s a perfect lightweight fabric, and a lovely colour for my client (he’s banned from buying any more solid black!).
He put it over his black t-shirt and bottoms…..and it really lifted the black! Or you could also wear it with lighter colours as they’ve styled it, depending on the look you want.
‘Big Sur’ checked relaxed fit shirt in sugared lilac - All Saints - £119 down to £47
Vilebrequin tropical turtles short sleeved shirt
This one was for a beach party so perhaps more what you’d expect - I’ve got a sneaking suspicion my client would have gone for a plain shirt if he’d been left to his own devices though???
This was a fab colour on him and I love this print. The matching shorts are probably a bit too adventurous for most, so we put it with some plain sky blue ones which looked great.
I also styled it for him (in the online lookbook I put together for clients after their shopping trips) with navy linen trousers and jeans, for when he wants more casual looks. And then some cream, and beige trousers which are both smarter and look great too.
Tropical turtles ‘Ramie’ bowling shirt - Vilebrequin - £210
NN07 Broderie Anglaise short sleeved shirt
A Broderie Anglaise is a more unusual choice of fabric for a guy. But let me tell you, all those holes make it very nice and breezy - perfect for a summer’s day! Wear it on its own or over a t-shirt and with jeans or shorts.
If you’re not much into loud prints or bold colours but would like something a smidge alternative then it’s well worth having a look at this shirt. And it’s on sale too!
‘Julie’ broderie anglasie cotton shirt - NN07 at Harvey Nichols - £160 down to £96 or £64 at Mr Porter

“Sarah is fantastic.
I was worried before going shopping that I wouldn’t enjoy it or it wouldn’t work for me but it was such a success!
Got loads of great clothes and had a great time doing it.
There are lots of little touches that make this a really exceptional experience, like the prep work that Sarah does before hand and the digital app with outfit suggestions that you get afterwards.
Overall Sarah is exceptionally good at what she does and also great company, couldn’t recommend highly enough.”
