Just like Steve MQueen & Starsky & Hutch, I do love a shawl collared cardigan. I was searching for one for a client a couple of weeks ago and found one in J Crew and then when I went to visit another client, he happened to have on a great one from Timothy Everest (see below) Since then it seems the 70s trend is really kicking in and I've found the ones below too.
Inis Meáin is one of the three Aran Islands that lie off the coast of Ireland. Married couple Tarlach and Áine set up the company in 1976 as they wanted to remain living there and not emigrate like the majority of people. And, looking at this beautifully knitted cardigan, aren't you glad they did!? They use traditional Irish knitting techinques and reinterpret them for a contemporary look.

In the lighter colour this is perfect for this time of year. Still warm and cosy but it looks a little more Spring like. Wear it as a jacket layered over a white crew neck t-shirt and denim blue fine knit jumper with some slim cut jeans for a smart weekend look.

A different take on the longer shawl collar style, this is more jacket like especially as it's in a felted wool knit. The burgundy will add some colour to your wardrobe if it's a bit overloaded with blues and greys. Wear it with a chambray shirt and stone chinos for Spring days.

This is one of the ones I spotted whilst recce-ing for a shopping trip with a client. As he was a fan of cardigans, I'd recommended he try a shawl collar as an alternative to the v-neck's he had and he really liked the idea. I like the unusual diagonal stitching on this one and being cotton it'll see you through the summer months as well.

The navy version of this, is the one my client had on when I went to see him. It was a crisp sunny day, and he'd put it over a white grandad collared shirt, with some indigo jeans and tan boots and it looked fab! I tend to forget about Timothy Everest as I don't shop much in the Shoreditch area, but it was great to be reminded of it.
