Men’s sweaters for Autumn Winter 2025

One of my favourite items to shop for with guys are sweaters. You can be experimental with colours, they’re fun and cosy, and you can style them with layers on top and below.

Plus, winter always gives you more opportunities to play with accessories. It’s an area that’s easily overlooked by guys……they might be struggling to get the basics right and the finishing touches easily get forgotten about. But accessories make a big impact on how your outfit looks, so why not try something new this season? (And if you need some help - give me a shout).

Anyway, back to sweaters - here’s some I’ve spotted whilst researching for clients - what do you think? Which would you wear?

JOHN LEWIS raspberry cable knit sweater

I was so happy when I spotted this colour in John Lewis as I just knew it was going to look amazing on the guy whose personal shopping trip I was prepping for. He has “winter’ colouring and looks great in rich, deep jewel tones like this.

We added this bandana scarf from Wax Clothing too - not something he had in his wardrobe already but was willing to try. After all he’d booked me in so he could get out of his comfort zone…..and I’m hoping that zone was thoroughly expanded during our shopping trip!

DRAKES grey brushed Shetland crew neck jumper

There’s something fuzzily fantastic about these Drake’s sweaters - it makes all the difference that they’ve got a brushed finish to them, making them just that bit cooler in look, cosier in feel.

There’s loads of colours to choose from, but I actually love how they’ve styled this grey one - the extra layer and scarf take it from a fairly basic sweater, to a really interesting look.

Note the ecru jeans - which I mentioned in this blog post and see how they take it up a level from regular blue jeans.

HOWLIN ‘Birth of the cool’ green wool crew neck sweater

Another bright option…..because why wouldn’t you want to add some colour to all the grey days coming our way?

The styling is fairly simple, but includes a tweak that I’ve been talking about a lot recently - layering a white t-shirt under a sweater, and leaving a tiny bit of it showing at the hem, and the neckline. A simple styling trick that creates a more layered and interesting look.

It also adds in that 3rd piece / colour, and as all design folk know, uneven numbers are more pleasing to the eye.

COLHAY’S navy shawl collar lambswool cardigan

Shawl collar cardigans are super cosy and having a moment right now….it must be the 70s influence, after all, who could forget Starsky & Hutch’s iconic cardis?

This one from Colhay’s is super luxurious and chunky - you can wear it almost like a jacket and layer it over a thinner sweater or a denim shirt.

I have a client who has one very similar (it may actually be this one) and when I went and did a wardrobe edit with him, we styled it with grey flannel trousers, ecru jeans and khaki chinos, and it looked great with all of them.

AIMÉ LEON DORE red merino open neck polo shirt

I’m really liking these open neck polo shirts (without the buttons) that have sprung into fashion. They give a retro feel, and though they look great in neutrals like grey and cream, I love this fire engine red one too.

Another interestingly styled look here from Mr Porter - but if you’re not into the wide black trousers, you could easily swap them out for black jeans and Chelsea boots and it’d look just as good.
