After a couple of recent discussions, I thought it'd be helpful to give some examples of various navy blazers and what to look for that makes them more formal or more casual. The differences can be quite subtle, and on the hanger they may look remarkably similar and it's not until you've tried it on that you can see the difference.
I hope this post helps to shed a little light on the situation!
Perhaps you're hesitating about using a personal stylist? You think, why would I spend all that money when I could just get my wife / girlfriend / partner to take me shopping instead. Surely it's the same?
I get it, if you've never worked with a personal shopper or stylist before then you probably haven't experienced what makes it a completely different experience to going shopping with your friend or spouse.
I've set out how it's different in this blog post - click through to read.....
I know we've all been 100% converted to wearing trainers with everything and they're pretty much acceptable everywhere now, but wouldn't it be nice to have an alternative too?
That's what a lot of my clients have been looking for on recent personal shopping trips. They want something that looks good with smart casual clothes like dark jeans and a chore jacket, a casual blazer and chinos, or a sweater and bomber jacket.
Here are some of the shoes that my recent clients have bought, to go with those types of outfits.......
When clients come to me, they want to replenish their wardrobes but also they want to know how to update their style to be more modern and contemporary, and often how to take it from being a bit ordinary to being just that bit more "edgy" and exciting without them looking silly or like they're trying too hard.
Maybe you too, feel like you don't dress too badly now but know you've got a bit boring and could look better, and would love to make some tweaks to your outfits to look more modern and a touch different to the 'norm'.
The problem is you don't know where to start, .and that's exactly why I've put this blog post together! Keep reading.........
Have you been shopping in the sales yet? I've been grabbing lots of bargains with my clients on their personal shopping trips. We've been getting some fab things at a fraction of the original price, including accessories.
They often get forgotten about and can be the last things guys think of but they can easily transform your outfit, bringing it all together and expressing your personality all in one go. So why wouldn't you want to have some fun with them?
Here's my picks for January 2024.....you definitely won't have the January blues if you get any of these, even though they are all in shades of navy!
A lot of people gave up their smart overcoats during lockdown, and until recently hadn't really returned to wearing them as much. Either weren't going into the office or were only dressing in smart casual looks which they could wear a more casual jacket with.
But just recently I've been shopping for more proper overcoats with clients. I'm encouraging them to wear them not just with tailoring but with casual jeans and jumpers as well.
I think they look really cool styled with chunky knits, hoodies, baseball caps and trainers or boots. And this way you can get full wear from them, instead of just keeping them to go over a suit.
If you haven't already sorted out your outfits for any upcoming parties or for the Christmas break, then here are some suggestions.
You can easily add a bit of festive cheer to your outfits just by going for 'Christmas colours' - add any of these tops to a white t-shirt and blue or black jeans and voilĂ , you instantly have a party ready outfit.
I know what it's like - you intend to do something that makes you feel good about yourself and yet somehow it just never seems to be the right time and you keep putting it off.
Other things take priority over your time and money, and you continue as you are.......which is mainly okay but with an underlying frustration, and inkling that you know you could look better, you're just not sure how.
There's the odd occasion or three, when you dress in something you just don't feel right in and end up in a bad mood, and on a back foot.
And then there's the panic when you have something you need to dress up for, and you don't have the right thing in your wardrobe. You spend more time than you'd like thinking about it and wonder how all the other guys manage to get it together so easily and you can't.
Sound familiar? Here's some of the other reasons, you might be putting off booking in your personal styling session or personal shopping trip for men:
It's turned so cold this weekend in the UK hasn't it? We're definitely taking a deeper dive into winter now, so it's time to put your thicker knits into rotation.
What? You don't have any??? Or maybe the moths have attacked your favourites? (If they have you can get it repaired here).
Let's sort that out right away then. Keep reading for my sweater picks for this winter.......
Traditionally shopping and pretty much anything to do with clothes is still thought of as a woman's domain....."real" men don't think much about style do they? When I tell people what I do, they automatically think it's for women.
And yet, after some conversations I've had in the past couple of weeks, I know that lots of men ARE very bothered by what they wear. When they're dressed well it gives them confidence, makes them feel the part, and as if they've got everything under control, when they're able to tick the "get wardrobe sorted' box and not think about it too much anymore.
So, here's why men need a personal stylist even more than women do.........
The temperatures have plummeted this week, and jackets & coats will be top of my clients' shopping lists.
I've posted many times before about Autumn Winter jackets for men, and the ones I feature seem to follow a rough pattern, and nearly always include a bomber jacket, a peacoat, a mac, and more recently a heavier over-shirt or chore jacket.
I always try to find ones that are a smarter alternative to your "dog-walking" jackets (aka functional, waterproof jackets that aren't particularly stylish) but not as formal as an overcoat, as this seems to be the gap in a lot of my clients' wardrobes
Should I wait until I've lost weight before I book a shopping trip is a question I've been asked a fair amount, and I get it - you don't want to waste loads of money on updating your wardrobe, only for it not to fit in 6 months time.
But for some people, the losing weight thing just never quite happens, so they always feel a bit rubbish about themselves and are constantly putting anything to do with their appearance on the back burner.
So, unfortunately there's not really a straightforward answer to the question, but in this blog post, I'm going to walk you through some of the options you have to help you make your decision.
