A couple of weeks ago, I had a request from a client for some lightweight travel friendly clothes for a new job he's starting, which involves frequent visits to South Africa. He said he thought it was "my sort of challenge"! You bet!
Here are some of the things I found during my research for him before we went shopping. Quite a few of them are in the sale, which means it's great because they're discounted but the sizes are selling out super fast, so if you do see something you like, act now!
And if you simply can't be bothered with the faff of doing it yourself (or have a different challenge for me!?) get in touch, and I'll be happy to help.
I knew about this shop before, as they have one in Sloane Square, but I've been shopping there a lot more now they've opened a bigger branch on Regent Street. They've got a number of travel friendly options, but we bought a few of these nylon shirts which boast the following credentials - "excellent breathability, thermoregulation, maximum comfort, easy care and quick drying." Sounds ideal for travelling don't you think?
This one's full price but there are some others in the sale here.
Slim fit sky blue stretch nylon shirt - Boggi Milano - £119
And another great option from Boggi - a super lightweight, unlined merino wool jacket that's designed not to crease as much as a regular blazer. You could put it with the navy trousers below or some stone coloured ones (to give a bit of contrast) like these lightweight ones from Spoke, for a great smart casual look.
Men's beige wool blend 'Aria' Blazer - Boggi Milano - £349.30
This shirt from Hackett looks even better in real life! It's got a soft collar and has quite a casual feel - it's still smart enough for business meetings with a blazer though but you could also put it with some lightweight jeans for drinks with your colleagues in the evening, or roll the sleeves up and wear with a pair of shorts for an impromptu beach trip!
Light and soft poplin shirt - Hackett - £47.50
As the name suggests, the 'weightles's range is brilliantly light and I've enjoyed buying the weightless Slimmy jeans with clients in the past. I can't find them in stock online at the moment, so instead I've opted for these weightless navy chinos. A perfect classic chino for travelling, which are slim but not too skinny and they suit loads of people. You can't go wrong with having a pair of these in your wardrobe.
'Slimmy' weightless navy chinos - 7 For All Mankind - £85
And finally, I thought I'd have a change from recommending the super light Cole Haan trainers that I love, and instead show you this pair from Clarks. I found them when I was recce-ing for the shopping trip, and thought they look great to bridge that gap between formal and informal, as well as being very lightweight. Win win!
'Chantry Walki' dark brown leather shoes - Clarks - £89
Will you be getting back to travelling for business soon and could do with some help to find a suitable work wardrobe for it? Let me do all the work for you - I'll source what can be found where, so you don't have to waste endless hours doing it yourself.
Here's what a client said about his shopping session:
"Sarah was well prepared and had researched well before we met. She had a plan right from the start and was full of enthusiasm and ideas for the next 6 hours!
We worked through her list and had found all that we had set out for by the end of the day.
Her confidence and rapport with the sales staff eased all the usual tension from the clothes shopping experience and all I had to do was try on clothes."
